Chapter Five

Business is as usual

“I must agree. This certainly is interesting” ship owner Larg admitted, returning a report he’d just read back to his intelligence officer. “It really is a pleasure to find humans who prefer gold over childish loyalty. He has been paid?”

“She has” his intelligence officer gently corrected. “Standard rates, no bonus. She could not supply the exact destination point.”

Larg tapped a thin gold plate covering his naturally bald skull. “In this one case. A small bonus is acceptable. There are, after all, only two small ships. Ralfh and Pharg are within hailing range. We will, this time, share. After all, such finds are extremely rare. It would not do to discourage our informants from doing business with us. Transfer to our friend, say twelve percent over?”

“Twelve percent Ship Owner. Will there be anything else?”

“Depart as soon as possible. We will join our, temporary, business friends just inside the bubble limit. It will be difficult to follow this human ship, though I think that, with three ships, we shall be successful. It will not be long before we take this prize away from these filthy humans. You may leave.” He waited, sipping his drink while he thought. If this information was correct he would become the richest off planet Uralth alive. Of course, he would have to suitably reward the human female. Perhaps she would enjoy being a ship owner. Under his personal command of course. That might prove interesting, a human ship owner. It had happened once before. A long, long time ago. Humans were so short lived after all, compared to the reptilian Uralth.
