Chapter Fourteen

"Rebecca Wilkins, MEO to see the CO" Rebecca informed the Bridge guard.

The female marine looked down, studying the oriental woman standing before her. "I'll pass it on LC" she replied. "Wait here." Stepping back, out of sight she apparently talked to someone as moments later Rebecca was allowed to step through the hatch.

"Thank you" she told the guard. The woman hardly noticed, already back in her position. 'Marines' Rebecca thought. 'Like robots.'

A middle aged man met her. "Hi LC, I'm Parker Williams, OD. CO's busy right now. Can you wait?"

"No problem Sir. There is nothing critical on my schedule at the moment" she agreed. "Place I can patch my laptop in and keep up with my people Sir?"

"Conference room two, this way LC."

Rebecca followed the man quietly. This bit of making all crew military bothered her. Navy was even worse. She understood why, but she'd only been a sergeant in the Air Force. Her officer rank bothered her, she wasn't trained, wasn't schooled enough to know what was expected.

"In here LC" William's informed her. "Use the green jacks, they are secured lines. You'll be monitored but other than the man doing that no one.. theoretically, can patch in."

"Thanks" she said, pulling a chair out. She watched as he left. ‘Officer of the Day, tough gofer job. Oh well better him than me' she thought. Patching her laptop in she contacted her people. At least she could work while she waited for the CO.

Not much later on Earth two Russian officers met in a very deep, very secret bunker. "All weapons ready for launch General" a young Captain reported.

"At the prescribed time. Only then" his Commander.

"Yes sir, twelve minutes and counting."

"Good good. Are my guests ready?"

"Yes sir. All the people on your list have gathered in the main auditorium to watch the attack. There have been some complaints of not enough food."

"Very well. Inform them that more food will be made ready and sent to them as quickly as possible."

"Yes sir." The Captain turned, leaving the Generals office.

"Food" the General laughed. "In fifteen minutes they will be food. For the wolves. Why feed them more?" He leaned back, loosening the weapon he wore. It wasn't a good idea to be unready as even trusted Sergive might turn on him. Though in that mans case he'd been almost totally honest. 'Well' he thought, 'I did put his daughters names on that list I sent to that Major, but he couldn't know so why worry?'

Time passed, events built. Soon.. so very very soon the pot would boil....
