Chapter Five

That had been months and months ago, months that turned into a year then two. What had followed was a series of lectures and access to the Government files on every Hero. Their strengths, their weakness. Rules on what she was allowed to do and what would happen if she stepped out of those boundaries. A completely alien language had been created that she had to learn. She soon discovered that it had as much to do with any Earth language as Klingon did. There were even books printed in that language, books she eventually found herself to able to read. Her body had been further modified as well, she had no real ‘super powers’ but she was tougher than even Solar Man it turned out. That would be a surprise for the muscle bound camera hog. Equipment was made available to her, exotic things but all obviously built on Earth. Just over two years after she had been captured the group decided Rebecca was ready and as it turned out almost too late.

Razor had ceased to be a problem, he had killed a young boy spray painting a school building. His excuse this time was that he mistook the can of black spray paint for a weapon. It didn’t fly and by the time Rebecca was declared ready he found himself serving fifty to life in ADX Florence. It seemed that the law was no longer amused by his actions.

“Before you leave” Doctor Trenton said to Rebecca, “You have to have a new name.”

Trenton, Rebecca had noted, along with the rest of whatever agency was running this madness had ceased wearing her mask half a year ago. “I never came up with one that didn’t sound corny” she admitted.

Trenton laughed, patting the larger woman on her back. “That, my dear is the real secret. Come up with a very foolish name and the heros will never take you seriously. They will tend to make mistakes which will be to your advantage. Add that you are not a killer, that will simply make it harder for them to realize how dangerous you really are. My dear, after reading and passing on your plans you are going to be a very dangerous villainess. Just do not get yourself killed, we, at least I have come to like you.”

Rebecca thought for a few minutes before a proto-smile came to her face. Like Pat, whom she had spent a lot of her free time with, her face couldn’t make the expressions humans could. But when she yawned! “Captain Fluffball” she decided abruptly.

“Captain... Fluffball.” Doctor Trenton worked the image over in her mind, then started giggling. “Oh my dear, that is a good one. Now, you had best say goodbye to the Doctor and his wife Pat, your transportation leaves rather soon.”

“What happens to them” Rebecca asked, abruptly serious.

“They continue their research of course. Should the time come that we no longer need them there is a beautiful place in the Rocky Mountains waiting for them. He will be able to travel to Denver for supplies and as there is a ‘furry’ convention there once a year, along with a comic convention. Well twice a year she can wander Denver without comment.”

“You forgot Halloween.”

“Why so I did, well that make that three times a year. Perhaps you will visit them, after all, even Super Villains get old and retire or at least have vacations now and then. By the time you do a natural crop of new ones should have popped up.”

Rebecca looked up at the second floor balcony where her now friends Pat and her husband were watching. “You never said why you are doing this instead of simply shutting down the Supers completely.”

“Oh that” the older woman said, waving her hand as if it were nothing. “Well, they do serve a purpose and if there ever was an alien invasion they would be a perfect distraction. But the main reason is simple.” She looked Rebecca in the eyes. “Pure Entertainment.”
